Bill Gates trashes hyperloop and cryptocurrencies in AMA

Image
Bill Gates isn't a fan of tech's popular buzzwords: cryptocurrency and hyperloop. The Microsoft co-founder hosted his sixth Reddit AMA on Tuesday, and didn't hold back on his answers.  Gates doesn't like what most people find appealing about cryptocurrencies: anonymity. "The Governments ability to find money laundering and tax evasion and terrorist funding is a good thing," he wrote, "I think the speculative wave around ICOs and crypto currencies is super risky for those who go long."  Comment from discussion thisisbillgates's comment from discussion "I’m Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Ask Me Anything." . Read more... Evan Rachel Wood testifies to Congress about her horrifying experience with sexual abuse

Image
Evan Rachel Wood is the latest Hollywood actress to use her fame and platform to stand up for survivors of sexual abuse and demand change for everyone. At a House Judiciary Subcommittee on Feb 27, she was one of three women to testify about the experience of sexual assault to urge Congress to implement the Sexual Assault Survivors' Bill of Rights Act in all fifty states, rather than just on a federal level. "I'm here today to use my position as an artist, survivor, mother, and advocate to bring a human voice to the population of 25 million survivors in the U.S. who are currently experiencing inequality under the law and who desperately need basic civil rights," she began. The best tech of Mobile World Congress 2018

Image
Mobile World Congress , the year's largest mobile show, played out a little differently compared to previous ones. Samsung returned in full force to announce its Galaxy S9 and S9+ , and every other phone maker mostly stepped out of its way LG , HTC , Motorola , and Huawei all had a presence at MWC, but none of them launched any competitive flagship phones. SEE ALSO: Samsung finally nails all the details with the Galaxy S9 and S9+ The ones that did rise up into the light were from Nokia and Sony , and the most innovative phones seemed to come from even lesser known brands like Vivo and Energizer. But despite a more quiet show, there were still a bunch of mobile gems that stood out from the crowd. In no specific order, here are the best mobile gadgets we saw at MWC 2018. Read more... Europeans asked Google for their 'Right to be Forgotten' 2.4 million times

Image
After three years in effect, the European ruling with a name that sounds like it's straight out of a science-fiction book is revealing the things people most want to hide about themselves online. Google published a new transparency report on Monday entitled "Three years of the Right to be Forgotten." The 17-page document analyzes requests European citizens have made to delist URLs under the " Right to be Forgotten " online privacy statute.  Google's transparency report found that from 2014-2017, Europeans requested that Google delist 2.4 million URLs from search, primarily regarding individuals' personal information, or legal history.  Read more... A complete guide to airline policy on emotional support animals

Image
Emotional support animals are becoming common sights on airplanes. We've seen pigs fly, and miniature horses as doctor-sanctioned animal companions. Then peacocks get the shaft when it comes to comforting passengers on board. And an emotional support hamster was tragically flushed away when it was refused entry on a flight earlier this year.  That harrowing tale of a companion animal gone very, very wrong highlights the confusion and complications of flying with animals for medical reasons. Before you tote your furry friend to the airport, make sure to brush up on which animals airlines allow on planes.  Read more... Watch Funny Or Die's uncomfortable #MeToo PSA starring Evan Rachel Wood

Image
Funny Or Die has released a #MeToo-inspired PSA, that's intensely uncomfortable. Starring Westworld 's Evan Rachel Wood, Star Wars: The Last Jedi 's Kelly Marie Tran, Tony nominee Da'Vine Joy Randolph, and a voice-over from Orphan Black 's Tatiana Maslany, the video attempts to engage with the #MeToo campaign against systemic sexual abuse in Hollywood. Using a Guess Who game. Yeah. Featuring game "characters" Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, Terry Richardson, Kevin Spacey, Louis CK, and numerous other men who have been accused of sexual assault, harassment, and misconduct. It seems flippant but it's a genuine PSA, directed by an all-female crew and calling for people to join Rise, a national civil rights nonprofit working to implement a Sexual Assault Survivors' Bill of Rights. Wood testifies with Rise on behalf of sexual assault survivors in Capitol Hill on Feb. 27 — hence the timing of the skit. Read more... More about Sexual Harassment ,
