Roseanne Barr May Already Be Planning Her Next Move After The Cancellation Of ‘Roseanne’

ABC

Roseanne hasn’t been canceled long at this point, but the question about what is next for the cast, crew, and its former star have been flooding out into the public realm. While ABC could move the cast from the show to another show on the network — maybe in some sort of sideways mirror world — Roseanne Barr’s future still has question marks flying around it. The network and her talent agency have dropped her in the wake of her racist tweet on Tuesday, but supporters have come out for the former sitcom star, and her responses on Twitter indicate she’s not going away any time soon.

Not only has Barr hinted she would be fighting and maybe going elsewhere, but she’s also taken a stance against accusations that she is racist according to The Wrap, not including her ridiculed claim that Ambien was to blame:

“I’m not a racist, I never was & I never will be,” the actress wrote. “One stupid joke in a lifetime of fighting 4 civil rights 4 all minorities, against networks, studios, at the expense of my nervous system/family/wealth will NEVER b taken from me.”

Barr joins the chorus who have started to criticize ABC for their practices, including the president, and she spent most of the day retweeting supportive messages, conspiracy theories, criticism of ABC and Valerie Jarrett, and support for the president. There is no word from Barr on any new moves past that, but others have interest.

Former Trump campaign advisor Michael Caputo is working on building an online streaming startup called Bond according to Variety and has shown interest in courting Barr in some capacity in a statement to The Daily Beast:

“We always planned on reaching out to Roseanne eventually,” Caputo told The Daily Beast. “Now it’s sooner rather than later.”

Caputo’s description of the service to Variety says it aims for the spot between YouTube and Netflix, using cryptocurrency and crowdfunding as a backbone to appeal to those creators. He also adds it won’t necessarily have a conservative slant, but he does seem to focus a lot on “flyover country” and joins other in supporting Barr against the “Hollywood gods” that didn’t accept her apology over the racist tweet.

Meanwhile, as part of the many wild things Barr retweeted to her Twitter account today, The View‘s Whoopi Goldberg was caught in the crossfire with co-host Joy Behar as members of the ABC family. Their criticism of the Trump camp came into play, leading to Barr retweeting a Photoshopped image of Goldberg at the Women’s March in 2017. The original shirt said, “And you thought I was a nasty woman before? Buckle up buttercup,” but was replaced by a violent Trump message and led to Goldberg lashing out on the show:

“So this is what I’m going to say, Roseanne. Just because you were caught with your pants down, don’t try to drag other people down with you,” Whoopi scolded. “Because there are times when you got to suck it up cause you stepped in doo…

“I didn’t fake my shirt. Someone else faked my shirt. But that’s your tweet, that tweet came from you,” Whoopi said, returning to Roseanne. “You did this to yourself.”

Goldberg’s comments hit on the strange existence of Barr’s Twitter account at the moment, featuring wild and unverified posts retweeted from other accounts peppered with tweets like this from Barr herself that carry a different tone to them:

Whatever happens next, this controversy is far from over, and we might see Roseanne back on television in some form sooner than later.
