Somehow, Alex Jones' InfoWars is still on Spotify and iTunes

Image
After threatening Special Counsel Robert Mueller and accusing a Parkland survivor of being a crisis actor, InfoWars host Alex Jones is finally, sorta kinda, facing repercussions. Facebook recently suspended Jones for 30 days and took down four of his videos YouTube removed four videos as well, issuing Jones a "strike." Receiving three strikes would kick Jones off YouTube, however, strikes also expire after three months.  Far quieter, however, has been digital streaming platform Spotify, who continues — despite some outrage — to host multiple InfoWars podcasts from Jones on site. Dan Harmon dishes on how 'Rick and Morty' Season 4 will be different

Image
Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon doesn't seem to be letting the Emmy nomination for Season 3 go to his head. In a recent profile in Emmy Magazine , the nominee talked about how he's already planning to change up the writing process for Season 4 (and beyond), to ensure the underdog-turned-cultural-phenomenon never loses its touch.  And spoiler alert: expect the unexpected. SEE ALSO: Who exactly is watching 'Rick and Morty' on Hulu? The answer may surprise you "It's a show that can literally go anywhere and do anything. It has a boundless margin for nihilism; in other words, you can't go too far. Not only narratively, but also tonally, there is nothing off the table for the show," he said. Read more... Lyft and Uber duke it out with competing subscription plans

Image
Lyft released a new monthly subscription plan on Monday for routes you take often, like home to the office or from the gym.  The "personal plan" is now available after the ride-hailing company had tested its all-access plan and other variations starting late last year. The all-access plan, which offers a set number of rides for a discounted up-front price, is still available. SEE ALSO: Lyft makes it easier to get a ride on a military base The new plan locks in set pricing between two routes for a monthly fee. Space photos show fires tormenting bone-dry California

Image
Triple-digit temperatures and parched land have left much of California's expansive forests vulnerable to any spark or flame. The Carr Fire, which started on July 23 after a vehicle caught fire, has spread to nearly 100,000 acres as of July 30. From hundreds of miles above, satellite images show a state besieged by an imposing plume of smoke, with a vast part of the region blanketed in a thick, brown haze.  SEE ALSO: Redding newspaper lost power amid extreme fire, but still found a way to print the news Vegetation in the drought-ridden terrain around the City of Redding, where the Carr Fire has prompted thousands to flee and has taken at least six lives , is now exceptionally dry.  Read more... The best places to find human kindness on the internet

Image
Like many of you, I've spent the last 30 or so months glued to Twitter in a white hot rage. Even days when the Trump administration isn't allegedly torturing families , I find something, someone to be mad about: perhaps a particularly bad Mark Duplass take or just Stephen Miller, existing. I'm desperate to find good humans on Twitter. The kindness reserves feel depleted. Everywhere I look, there are monsters. Last week I got so down I  Google image searched " Jimmy Carter shaking hands on a plane " in a desperate attempt at finding something decent. But altruism isn't dead. There are still good humans out there — or, at minimum, really well crafted bot accounts — who exhibit real human kindness. You just need to know where to find them. That's true especially for Twitter, which features an exceptionally high density of deeply angry people. Read more... Amazon Studios no longer wants your input on TV pilots

Image
Amazon will no longer let audiences vote on which TV pilots they want to see developed into full-length series. According to an Entertainment Weekly report , executives from Amazon Studios told a group of reporters on Saturday that the company would be halting its innovative practice of letting audiences vote on which TV shows are eventually made. Amazon Studios started conducting viewer polls six years ago as an attempt to gain feedback on some of the pilots it developed. The process was used to vet some of the company's most popular shows, including Transparent and Man in the High Castle.
