What if we told you that yesterday’s newsletter actually contained today’s memes and today’s actually contained yesterday’s? Would you even notice? Well, maybe we did. Anyway, now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious Friday by this Nico Nii. Yes, this Friday, we celebrate a pair of “disappointment” memes, as two staples of the internet celebrate their anniversaries today yesterday: “Say the Line, Bart” from “The Simpsons” and “We Have Food at Home.” But fear not, if those get you down, we also have one of the most classic “anime girl dancing” videos to grace the internet in “Nico Nico Nii.” Let’s get into it. | | On this day in 1994, “The Simpsons” aired “Bart Gets Famous,” where, as the title implies, Bart gets famous. His catchphrase “I didn’t do it” becomes the talk of Springfield, leading to a scene where his classmates all demand him to “say the line.” After he dejectedly does it, the class erupts in applause. The 2016 advent of Frinkiac, more or less a “Simpsons” meme generator that hosts every frame of the series, helped the scene become an exploitable as users edited it to make Bart say different things and represent different entities. While it’s no longer as popular as it was in its heyday, it still sees use from time to time, particularly when a company trots out some familiar PR spin. Read more. | | We’ve all been there. As a kid in the backseat of a car, we pass our favorite fast-food chain. “Mom, can we stop at WenDonald’s King?” we ask excitedly. “No,” says Mom. “We have food at home.” Of course, the food at home could never compare to the salty, greasy pleasures from fast-food, in fact, it always seemed to be something extremely disappointing, like a hardboiled egg on soft bread. This feeling was captured in the “We Have Food at Home” meme, which started trending around this day in 2013. Over the years, the “food” at home was changed by memers to whatever thing they found disappointing.
