| | Crown Heights one-bedroom. Photo-Illustration: Curbed; Photo: Craigslist | | I tried to do the subway thing again, except this time I wandered off in a few errant directions, so please forgive me. But for the most part, I stuck to the A, C, E line (after High Street) — making stops in Clinton Hill, Bed-Stuy, and Far Rockaway. Some highlights include: a stunning studio with a very large (maybe too large?) kitchen, and a piece of literal beachfront property under $2,500. | Gawk at nice apartments with us. I like that the kitchen gets its own designated space — enough of these sad, Home Depot–sponsored kitchen slivers that hang out in the corner of the room, with their cheap "medium oak" finish. The garden feels downright British — with flourishing hydrangea at every turn. | $1,800, 1-bedroom: Okay, the shades are bad. And the photography is worse. BUT: I see potential! Especially with all the beautiful crown molding. Plus, according to the listing: "There is a large porch at this house where elderly current tenants socialize throughout the day." And this is a thought that fills me with joy. | $5,350, 5-bedroom: This is not a drill, folks. That is the price for FIVE BEDROOMS in CLINTON HILL. However, as someone who actually lived in this apartment building from 2016–18, I can tell you that if you live here, you can forget about things like: washer-dryers, dishwashers, heat (it's drafty!), any response from your landlords at all … even after the plaster wall they built to shadily convert your 1-bedroom into a 2-bedroom grows weak and starts to LITERALLY erode. Still, the apartments are charming. | $2,900, 2-bedroom: If the thought of living in Bushwick doesn't fill you with existential dread, this stunning 2-bedroom at a not-so-terrible price point with all the prewar fixings could be just the ticket. | | | Bushwick two-bedroom. Photo: J&M Realty | | $2,650, 1-bedroom: Seemingly huge 1-bedroom floor-through in a Bed-Stuy brownstone. Could use some elbow grease, and less floor varnish, but it's checking all the boxes (plus there's storage!!). | $4,000, 3-bedroom: This brownstone has promise — tons of space, windows in every room, hardwood floors … | $2,950, studio: Very charming (though overpriced) studio apartment. Though I don't believe it's as bright in there as it looks in the photographs, this garden apartment does still appear less dank than most. The giant kitchen is unexpected here and feels like it could take up half the apartment? Not a bad thing. | | | 262 Monroe Street. | | $2,100, 1-bedroom: Relatively fairly priced studio apartment (it's all relative!!!!) with tons of beautiful windows that let in tons of natural light and the most grim bathroom/kitchen situation I've seen in a little while. | $4,500, 4-bedroom: Something about this matte-black kitchen is speaking to me — it feels bold and almost … avant-garde. In reality, I think this is a commercial space that has been (lightly) converted into residential — but it's huge and it's lofty and worth a visit, I'd say. | $2,850, 1-bedroom: The reno is uninspired, but there's tons of space and a nice, well-utilized roof deck. | $1,825, 2-bedroom: The listing says it's underpriced, and I'd have to agree! Nice hardwoods, good light, arched passageway, right off the A. | $2,850, 2-bedroom: Second-floor, two-bedroom house, a stone's throw from the beach. With private, west-facing deck and new (albeit not great) kitchen appliances!! | $2,499, 1-bedroom: Three words — beach, front, property. Not much more to write home about apartment-wise, except for the pink tiled bathroom of course : ) | | | 117-12 Ocean Promenade. Photo: Raindel Norman B | | Did someone forward you this email?
