Tom Hanks made his big-screen debut in an unremarkable 1980 slasher cheapie called He Knows You're Alone. And based on that inauspicious start, it's safe to say that no one could have predicted that he would go on to become a two-time Best Actor Oscar-winner and the most beloved movie star on the planet. Hanks's career is a long and winding one, full of unpredictable detours, bold choices, and indelible performances. He's more than earned his place on everyone's movie Mount Rushmore. But with so many films on his resume, we wanted to know how they stacked up against one another. |

Mike Faist is trying to convince me he doesn't like being an actor and that he's not very good at it. But lying is a necessary part of what he calls the "curse" of being famous, and I think he's doing it now. Sometimes, he says, when people recognize him in his neighborhood and ask, Are you the dude from that thing? "I'll just lie to them. They'll be like, 'Are you Mike?' I'm like, 'Who?'" He thinks fame is kind of stupid. It doesn't suit him. "At the end of the day it's kind of ridiculous that we're doing this interview, because I'm just some guy who has a job." |

"I'm taking an intellectual detour," says Lisa Joy, after we discuss digital-protection laws and the new Princess Peach video game but before we go deep on German nationalism. I'm at the Manhattan apartment of Joy and Jonathan Nolan, the husband-wife duo behind trippy sci-fi hits like Westworld, The Peripheral, and Fallout. (Nolan also cowrote Interstellar and the Christian Bale–led Dark Knight films with his brother Christopher.) "I also might sound like a lunatic," she warns. Nolan quips, "Our work's been out there for a while. People know." |

Periods are normal, but kids pointing them out in their sketches is something else. Australian woman Penny Rohleder shared a photo of her son's drawing on the Facebook page of blogger Constance Hall on Jul. 25, which well, says it all. SEE ALSO: James Corden tests out gymnastics class for his son and is instantly showed up by children "I don't know whether to be proud or embarrassed that my 5 year old son knows this," Rohleder wrote. "Julian drew a family portrait. I said 'What's that red bit on me?' And he replied, real casual, 'That's your period.'" Well, at least he knows. To give further context, Rohleder revealed she had pulmonary embolism in October 2016, and was put on blood thinning treatment which makes her periods "very, very bad," she explained to the Daily Mail . For centuries , humans have used fish oils, orally or topically, to treat a wide array of ailments, from aches and pains to rickets and gout. The popularity of this supplement has shifted over the years, as have its primary uses. But over the past couple of decades, the hype around fish oil has arguably reached an all-time high. According to National Institutes of Health statistics , in 2012, at least 18.8 million Americans used about $1.3 billion dollars worth of fish oil, making it the third most widely used supplement in the nation.
